1.3 THE PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
The purpose of this study is to study
about the leadership style practice by the principals in successful secondary
school in Sibu, Sarawak. This study aim to describe the leadership style
practice by the principals based on Lewin’s Leadership Styles, 1939 involving
autocratic, democratic and laissez-faire. Besides that, this study will find
out the relationship between leadership style practice by principal and their
background factors. The background factors in this study involving training
management, staffing, gender and administrative experience. Then this study
will examine teachers, administration staffs, parents and students perspective toward
the leadership style that practice in their school. Therefore, this study will
describe about:

The
leadership style practice by principals in successful secondary school in Sibu,
Sarawak and explain how the principals practice their own leadership styles in
that school.
2.
The
relationship in leadership practices based on background factors of training
management, staffing, gender and administrative experience with the leadership
style practice by each principals in successful school in Sibu, Sarawak.
3.
Teachers,
administration staffs, parents and students perspectives towards leadership
style practice by the principals in their school.

1.5 SIGNIFICANT OF THE STUDY
In general, this study has a number of interests
that can be guidance by the others principal in Sarawak in order to conduct
their school more organize and effective.
The
findings are expected later able to provide awareness and understanding relate
to leadership practice in successful school in Sibu, Sarawak. Accordingly, the
study is also expected to help the selected principals and others principals in
Sibu, Sarawak assess their strengths and weaknesses each leadership style
through empirical findings and research. As a result, principals will acquire
additional knowledge and guidance, particularly when nowadays Malaysia
Education Development Plan (Pelan Pembangunan Pendidikan Malaysia) 2013-2015,
had stated to place a quality principal or leaders in each school based on government
criteria and some training.
This
study is also expected to provide more ideas and input to all parties whether
at school, education department state and Ministry of Education in an effort to
recruit, select and evaluate the effectiveness of the training program of
principals. Information obtain from this study can also be used as a guideline
for the construction of a model based on context and culture of principals in
Malaysia especially in Sarawak.
The
findings of this study are also able to be a reference to the others school
principal in Malaysia of how leadership practices can affect the success of the
school. In addition, the findings based on Lewin’s Leadership Style, 1939 will
able to provide useful information to the educational planners in formulating
training toward school administrator appointment policy in Malaysia. It also
serves as an initial process for researches who are interested in to do a research
in leadership style field.
